Rueda 2 Series #9 - Homage to Gerardo Rueda
Gerardo Rueda (1926-1996)
Gerardo Rueda was the founder of the Cuenca Group together with Gustavo Torner and Fernando Zobel. Together they created the Spanish Museum of Abstract Art in Cuenca, Spain. He is a self-taught artist who developed an abstract style with constructivist bent. His known works are geometric figures in monochrome, showing perfection in composition. In the 1960’s, Rueda superimposed different materials such as cigarette packs and pieces of wood on his canvas to create a colorful and textured collage.
